Carbonitriding
Carbonitriding process temperature is between cementation and nitration.
During carbonitration at around 850 °C, carbon and nitrogen are simultaneously sent to the material surface as interstitial atoms and then rapidly cooled in oil.
Carbonitriding creates a hard and wear-resistant layer. In general, it benefits the surface hardening of low-alloy series product materials.
Depending on the alloy of the material, it creates a maximum depth of around 0.6-0.7 mm.
Fasteners are used extensively in industry. It is also preferred in clutch pressure plates to keep the deformation that occurs during heat treatment to a minimum.
